We begin our tour curving around Princess Royal Harbour with a view to King George Sound and the Southern Ocean beyond. Imagine for a moment, the spume of spray and the playful leap of a whale as it makes its way along the Great Southern coast on a long journey north. Today it travels safely; uninterrupted on its path. Albany’s role in the Australia’s whaling story comes to life on this tour at Albany’s Historic Whaling Station, Discovery Bay.
Climb aboard the famous whale chaser to experience life on board an actual whaling ship, and explore the movie, photos, artefact galleries and marvel at the enormous whale skeletons on display.
Relax with tea/coffee and cake, in Whaler’s Galley with views across King George Sound. You haven’t seen Albany until you’ve visited the Historic Whaling Station, the only experience like it in the world! This tour provides reflection on the significance of whale hunting in the past, and recognition of the value of whale watching today. On return to Albany, enjoy the pristine marine environment of the southern Australian coastline is seen in magnificent splendour on the journey through the Torndirrup National Park. Albany’s Whale Story is an interesting historic tour. A welcome break for me and my family from the road trip we were on.
